Bagging the Bikini. Bon Voyage all!

Hanging up the coat for a swimsuit is ideal to most anyone once they've had a taste of weather in the 30's; even if beach season was just two months ago.  I'm cruising the Mexican Riviera next week, but I've actually found many who are traveling to warmer territory this fall.  Kudos to those who have saved vacation time for the end of the year.   Trekking through the dog days of summer at the desk is hard when every one else is laying beach side with a pina colada!
You've stood the test of time; now are approaching a rewarding vacation to warmer climates, but it's possible you may come across one dilemma.   Summer clothes and beach wear have been absent from the retail shelves for months!  Sure, you probably have a decent collection compiled to take with you from back in June and July. That doesn't necessarily mean you want your vacation wardwrobe to scream SUMMER WHITE SEASON to other travelers.  The key to sunny destination travel in the fall and winter is matching key pieces from your summer collection with updated resort wear that are season appropriate.
The easiest way to find these options is going to be online at this time of year.   J Crew already has its 2010 swimwear preview on Jcrew.com.  This above adorable Sea Green Bandeau bikini from Jcrew will spare you tan lines!   "The Grass is Always Greener Dress" pictured top right comes from Modcloth.com.  Their site has a heavy assortment of summer dresses still in stock; many that were completely sold out through the summer!
Modcloth's floral halter dress  pictured right is perfect for afternoon shopping excursions in St. Thomas!
You should also consider cute vacation accessories.  Swoozies.com realizes  you don't want to leave your bikini soaking in your beach tote, so they sell these adorable bags to pack away your suit while keeping your other necesities dry! For a measly $14.99, no girl should be without!   A day at the beach or ship deck is incomplete without an adorable koozie to keep your beverage perfectly chilled!
Check out your local gift boutiques for these.  They are everywhere!  What could be better than an embroidered koozie?
Lastly, it's highly possible  you'll have one night that is a little dressier than the rest on your vacation.   Whether it's formal night on the cruise or a special night with your guy, take at least one cocktail dress to impress!  Classic red looks good on almost everyone and it surely makes an impression.   Show your tan off at the end of the week with this strapless red satin dress from The Limited.
Most likely your week will fly, so take lots of pictures of your group of people with their adorable outfits and accessories!  After all, the 80 degree weather won't be around when you get home but photos last a life time!

A tale of horse races and Homecoming

Fall is in full swing!  For some, tucking away sundresses can be heart-wrenching, while for others, pulling out wool jumpers and herringbone skirts makeup for the floral and polka dot losses.  There are many activities during October and November that call for gallivanting outdoors while dressed formally appropriate.
I'm a Kentucky girl and we Southern ladies don't think "pumpkins and scarecrows" when October rolls around.  We think "Keenland time in Lexington."  Every weekend in October, ladies and gentlemen slip into their fall finds, sip on a good brandy, and flock to the race tracks  where the bidding stakes can be high and the style watching is higher.
Adorable fall dresses are brimming in your local boutiques. Unfortunately, many of them are constructed from heavy material yet still possess short hemlines and short sleeves. This green dress pictured above from Modcloth.com is the perfect example. Luckily the flat or low heel knee-high boot is a girl's best friend! Match a pair like these boots pictured from Piperlime  with your dress, throw on a cutesy coat like this Jackie Kennedy  inspired "When Life Gives you Lemons" coat also from Modcloth.com and say goodbye to the chill!
Another great opportunity to get a little dressed up falls when your Alma Mater calls for Homecoming!   You actually get to go back to college, tailgate,  and show you've learned more in the real world than simply keeping a check balance.  You've got a career and it's time to dress like it! This red dress from Modcloth.com which looks like it came right off one of the women on AMC's Mad Men is sure to knock everyone off their feet!   I would love to see this with a great Black Riding Boot and a black and white Hounds-tooth cropped jacket!  I love this dress because red is my university's color.  If you can find a dress this smashing in your school's color for Homecoming, I'd have to call you short of crazy for not scooping it up.
There have been some years when Jack Frost strays from our autumn months and Indian summer's relish deep into the autumn's starry evenings.  Though I don't foresee this lovely image entertaining us this fall, having cooler options for your outings is still a smart move.  This Ruffle Tweed Dress from the Limited keeps you cool but brings a fall touch with a winter-white hat.
Ladies, Raise your glasses.  Raise them for your lucky horse. Raise them for your football team.  Raise them because good fashion is amongst us.  Then drink; Because you know you look good.
