A tale of horse races and Homecoming

Fall is in full swing!  For some, tucking away sundresses can be heart-wrenching, while for others, pulling out wool jumpers and herringbone skirts makeup for the floral and polka dot losses.  There are many activities during October and November that call for gallivanting outdoors while dressed formally appropriate.
I'm a Kentucky girl and we Southern ladies don't think "pumpkins and scarecrows" when October rolls around.  We think "Keenland time in Lexington."  Every weekend in October, ladies and gentlemen slip into their fall finds, sip on a good brandy, and flock to the race tracks  where the bidding stakes can be high and the style watching is higher.
Adorable fall dresses are brimming in your local boutiques. Unfortunately, many of them are constructed from heavy material yet still possess short hemlines and short sleeves. This green dress pictured above from Modcloth.com is the perfect example. Luckily the flat or low heel knee-high boot is a girl's best friend! Match a pair like these boots pictured from Piperlime  with your dress, throw on a cutesy coat like this Jackie Kennedy  inspired "When Life Gives you Lemons" coat also from Modcloth.com and say goodbye to the chill!
Another great opportunity to get a little dressed up falls when your Alma Mater calls for Homecoming!   You actually get to go back to college, tailgate,  and show you've learned more in the real world than simply keeping a check balance.  You've got a career and it's time to dress like it! This red dress from Modcloth.com which looks like it came right off one of the women on AMC's Mad Men is sure to knock everyone off their feet!   I would love to see this with a great Black Riding Boot and a black and white Hounds-tooth cropped jacket!  I love this dress because red is my university's color.  If you can find a dress this smashing in your school's color for Homecoming, I'd have to call you short of crazy for not scooping it up.
There have been some years when Jack Frost strays from our autumn months and Indian summer's relish deep into the autumn's starry evenings.  Though I don't foresee this lovely image entertaining us this fall, having cooler options for your outings is still a smart move.  This Ruffle Tweed Dress from the Limited keeps you cool but brings a fall touch with a winter-white hat.
Ladies, Raise your glasses.  Raise them for your lucky horse. Raise them for your football team.  Raise them because good fashion is amongst us.  Then drink; Because you know you look good.
